Frequantly Asked Questions

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. It is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to reduce wrinkles by temporarily weakening certain muscles.

Before treatment with Botox®

Botox® is a prescription drug. It is therefore a legal requirement that either a Nurse Prescriber or Doctor prescribes it.

Prior to any treatment you will have an in-depth and comprehensive consultation with Carol or Karen who are both Nurse Prescribers. A thorough medical history will be taken and the treatment process explained. This discussion will enable you to ask questions and identify areas requiring treatment.

Once you are happy to commence with treatment, you will be required to sign a consent form. Only then can the Botox® be prescribed for you. Due to this legal requirement treatment cannot be carried out on the same day, however can be carried as soon as the next day.

How long does it take to work?

Between 3 - 14 days. Do not be alarmed if after a few days you cannot see any changes. For best results we always advocate a top up at 2 weeks which is included in the initial cost.

Are Botox® Injections Painful?

There is usually no need for anesthetic to be applied, however anasthetic cream is always available if needed.

Will I bruise?

Sometimes brusing occurs but it is uncommon with Botox® , however you may experience a little redness or red marks which should dissappear after an hour or so. A cold compress can be applied to the area to reduce redness and further minimise the risk of bruising.

How long will my it last?

On average Botox® lasts 3-5 months, however it will be working at its best 2 weeks after administration, its effect slowly decline there after.

Can i excericise after treatment?

It is adviseable to refrain from running & areobics for 24/48 hours following Botox® injections.

Can i have Botox® if i am on antibiotics?

It is adviseable to speak with your Aesthetic Nurse before your treatment if you are taking any medication or there has been a change to the Health Questionnaire you completed at your first consultation. There are a few drugs that will prevent Botox® being prescribed for you.

Can i wear make up straight after the injections?

It is advisable not to apply make up for up to 6 hours following treatment.

Can i have other facial treatments, like Endermologie or Laser after my injections?

We advise no facial treatments for 7 days after your injections.

Can i go on a sun bed after treatment?

We advise you to avoid the use of sunbeds for a few days after your injections. We do however not advocate the use of sun beds due to the damaging effects on the skin.
